Automatic Messages on Twitter

By Brenda Williams

If there is one thing that is annoying about Twitter, it is the fact that people sign up for automatic messages that post on other peoples profiles once they are added as a follower. For instance, the other day, I saw a couple of profiles that I wanted to follow, so I did. A few minutes later, I received what I thought was a direct message (or ‘DM’ as it is known on Twitter) from the specific person that I had followed. However, once I read the message, I very quickly realized that it was not a personal message sent by the person but, rather it was an automated message that the person had set up when they signed up for Twitter. I later wound up deleting this person.

The whole point of Twitter and/or any other social networking site is so that people can interact with one another and start conversations, engage in conversation, etc. How are you supposed to talk to someone if he or she isn’t even there though? There is no staying power in a “conversation” in which the other person is never around or simply cannot afford the time it takes to send you a personal, non-automated message.

Most of the time, you can find people to talk with or argue with on Twitter. The best way to do this is to use the search function to find topics that you are the most interested. So, for instance, if you are an athlete who likes to play soccer, you might type in the term “soccer” and see what comes up. The search results will typically produce a list of Twitter profiles along with the pertinent text to which the item you just searched for is mentioned. From there, you can click through any of the profiles (unless the profiles are set to private) to get a better idea of who that particular person is. By looking at someone’s tweets, you can not only see how often they log into Twitter, but you can also see what kinds of things interest them based on the various conversations that they are having. Additionally, nine times out of ten, you can almost immediately tell if the person has a hidden agenda.

From my experience, the twitter users who tend to gravitate towards automatic messages are those who are on Twitter to promote their businesses and/or those twitter people who have so many followers that they simply cannot keep up with all of the personal messages to each and every person. While the topic is up for debate, it seems as if automatic direct messaging (DM’ing) on Twitter not only looks and feels impersonal, but it gives off the impression that you really don’t care enough to send someone a message. If that’s the case and you simply cannot keep up with your Twitterers, there is no rule saying that you have to have automated direct messaging in place. In fact, I think most Twitter users would prefer no message to one that came from a computer.

How to Automate Twitter Marketing Campaigns

    By John Delavera

If you have ever wondered what would be the best way to learn how to automate Twitter marketing campaigns, you aren’t alone. Few websites have the power of Twitter, with the almost unheard of ability to keep millions of people connected with each other around the clock. This power can definitely translate into sales for you if it is done correctly.

Those who have an online Internet marketing business need to know the best way to automate Twitter marketing campaigns. This is so that they can get their message out in a hurry to those who participate in social network and micro blogging services like Twitter.

Twitter gives the online marketer the ability to automate Twitter marketing campaigns, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from wherever their laptop computer, desktop computer, or even their PDA device happens to be. This is a new phase in the world of online marketing, and those who have an online business should definitely take advantage of it.

Knowing how to automate Twitter marketing campaigns is knowing and understanding how viral marketing works, because that is what you will be doing. You send a Tweet to a friend about your products and service, for example, with perhaps a call to action thrown in for good measure. They then write their own Tweet, and send it out to those on their list. This goes on and on until quite a few people are exposed to your marketing message. Out of all these thousands of people, it’s a safe bet that an impressive number of them will answer you call to action.

The Easiest Way To Collect Commissions From Your Visitors…

Affiliate marketing can be fraught with challenges sometimes. The biggest challenge of them all is getting your affiliate cookie on the prospects computer. For some unknown psychological reason, some people just don’t like to think you’re making any money out of them, even if you’ve done them a service.

This is what happens. You spend a few hours writing up a big product review, and preselling the target product. Then you take the time out to create a link building campaign to get your review onto page 1 of Google.  You start to see search traffic hitting your site, but then you don’t make any commissions.

    Why?

    Simple.

People can see your affiliate link and have decided they don’t want you to get a cut. Not very nice I know, but it happens more often than you think. Even if you use a link cloaker, many people are now aware that all it’s doing is hiding an affiliate link, and will go to the extent of clearing their cookies before going to the destination site.

It’s getting harder and harder for an affiliate to make a commission nowadays.

    So what’s the answer?

    Simple.

Don’t give them an affiliate link to click. Just give them a plain old direct link to the site, but make sure that before they click it, they already have your cookie on their computer.

When they go through to the site and buy, you get registered as the affiliate, and you make that commission.
Wordpress Profit Poster is a WordPress plugin that ensures your commissions by cookieing your visitors BEFORE they go to the destination site.

They have no idea that by the time they hover your plain text link in your review, they ALREADY have your affiliate cookie on their PC. When they buy, you earn the commission.

As far as they’re concerned, you’ve written a product review with no intent of financial gain, and they’re ready to go through to the site and buy.

    Hover over these 2 links:

    Now for the down site:

You’ve heard that with power comes responsibility?

Just like when you turned 21, you are given the right to go into a bar, but how many beers you gonna have with your buddies before you drive home? How many is too many?  The cost is heavy for abusing this new found freedom.

Same goes with WordPress Profit Poster.  It is recommended that you use 1 or 2 affiliate links per page or post. This tool has the ability to stuff as many cookies as you like quickly becoming black hat in the wrong hands.  Just remember that cookie stuffing is frowned upon by Clickbank and many other affiliate networks.  This tool can get your account closed if YOU abuse it.

Four Things That You Must Know to Use Twitter As a Marketing Tool

While the primary focus of my blog consists of different ways of automating twitter, it is important to know where to draw the line. Using Twitter as a marketing tool is perplexing to most people. Too little automation and you spend too much time on twitter which defeats the purpose. Too much automation and you get flagged, got to #twitterjail or get banned which also defeats the purpose. It’s like the sweet spot of a clutch. Find it and life becomes much easier.

Interaction is still required. You can’t automate that (unless you consider outsourcing automation). While most of your DM’s will be ads you should at least monitor them for legit conversations. That, and people LOVE to be re-tweeted. Below are a few other key points to keep in mind when marketing on Twitter.

1- Twitter is first and foremost meant to be used to build relationships and trust. Just as if you were going out with someone that you are interested in, it is going to take time to cultivate a relationship and grow trust. Marketing on Twitter isn’t all about advertising. Yes, you will be advertising eventually, but is not recommended right off the bat.

2- Use Twitter to provide advice and guidance to help the rest of the community. Assist in solving people’s problems and answering there questions. People search ‘useful’ information. The majority of the population on twitter is looking for information, not ads. An obvious affiliate link will send potential customers away faster than a flock of birds at the sight of a crocodile.

If you take the time to help people resolve an issue first, they may return the favor as a devoted fan (follower) who will purchase from you and better yet, spread your name around.

Being as that Twitter is a social network, those that are selfish or only there to ‘take’ are doomed to failure before they begin. Without being to brash, this will result in a spammy profile attempting amateur sales. You won’t find a novice usually having loyal fan base on social media sites. Rockies are here for a moment and gone tomorrow. Thinking and behaving like a newbie will get you nowhere when marketing on Twitter.

3- Zeroing in on your niche in Twitter is pretty much a no-brainer. Just go to search.twitter.com or tweetgrid to cut back down your micro niche. For example: If your market of choice happens to be camping gear, you would possibly use search.twitter.com and enter the key phrase, ‘tents, hiking, mountain bike,’ etc..

Here is an example of the live feed: Back from Mounds State Park. Fishing was great until my camping chair broke and I rolled into the water!

At this point, you might want to strike up a conversation with this particular lead. Eventually working in the fact that you know of the best camping gear on the world. But it it’s a necessity to develop the friendship first. People buy from people that they trust.

4- When you tweet, tweet with purpose. Tweet tweets you would want to read. Tweet something engaging, entertaining or even controversial. For example: “The great thing about Twitter is that you can quote something and totally make up the source” – Abraham Lincoln *or* “A priest, a Rabbi and a blond walk into a bar… http:/whatever”

Make sure to send out updates ‘worth posting’ like entertaining Videos, Articles, quotes that make you think, non-public or cool pictures, and loads of different cool issues that reveals to the world what you are all about.

    Marketing on Twitter – Simplified

There’s a simple rule of thumb when promoting a sales offer via Twitter. Tweet 3 – 4 content bases material solely, and then you can work in 1 sales tweet. When you do tweet a sales offer, be sure to still include value to it, such as: ‘New video about the 5 most common mistakes made with video marketing and how to avoid them. > http:/yourlink.com’.. Then at the end of the video leave a link. Also include a clickable link in the description. Tweeting about good articles (yours or someone else’s) will build credibility as well.

Off and on throughout the day, building a stable fan base should take no longer then 30 minutes to an hour per day. Yes, there are plenty of sites that will get you thousands of followers in a month, but that is more like putting on a blind fold, going through the cupboards and choosing 5 cans at random – throw it together and call it dinner. While there are many ways to help automate Twitter, building your following list should be done with much more consideration.

10 Secrets to Using Twitter to Attract More Followers and Get More Clients

    Author: Donna Gunter

    Copyright (c) 2008 OnlineBizU.com

I do wonder at times if some Twitter users have any time to get any work done. Several of the more prolific ones that I follow swear they spend no more than 30 minutes a day on Twitter, but I really find that hard to believe. Many times it seems they are twittering just to say something, like “Good morning Twitterverse” when they begin their day, give more details than I want to know about what they had for lunch, what their children said to them, or when they take a nap.

I realize that this is part of the “like, know, and trust” process that enables people to get to know each other, but sometimes it’s simply too much information..LOL. I’m Twittering primarily to market my business. Consequently, I try and limit my personal twitters to no more than 2 per day. My clients, who create Twitter accounts for marketing, as well, tell me, “I’m signed up. Now what in the world do I Twitter about? How do I market my business with this tool?”

Here are 10 strategies that I use regularly to marketing my business and my expertise via Twitter. Remember, you have only 140 characters for your tweet (Twitter post).

    1. How you’re helping clients. Talk about specific ways that your business helps clients and use their Twitter ID if you have their permission, i.e. “Just finished @clientname brainstorm great Internet marketing plan for 2009″ or “Finally finished setting up Quickbooks for local hardware store — now they can invoice their clients”

    2. What you’re doing in your own business. This is a perfect time to tell others when you’re blogging, writing an article, creating your weekly ezine, recording your podcast, i.e. “Had great interview with Jane Smith today on speaking to grow your biz. Great ideas! Subscribe to podcast & listen here ”

    3. Useful tool or resource you’ve found. I run across these all the time in my daily activities, and Twitter is a perfect place to share,. i.e. “Found great new Firefox plug-in to monitor & check multiple Gmail accounts at same time at ” or “Read great blog post on working at home with kids under 5 at (URL here)”

    4. Ask a question. Need some ideas or some quick brainstorming? Twitter is an ideal place to gather opinions, i.e. “Help! Desperately seeking new laser printer. Recommendations?” or “How do I find training organizations online?”

    5. Conduct a survey. What do your Tweeps think about a particular issue? Ask them via Twitter, i.e. “Quick poll: Do you get more clients from Facebook or Twitter? Respond at (URL here)”

    6. Report on live events. The latest Twitter trend seems to be tweeting what’s happening at conferences or workshops. In order for Twitter users to follow a particular event, it’s usually referred to by a name preceded by a # sign, as in #JVAlert, for example, to make it simpler for people who want to follow those posts. So, if you were at an event, you might tweet “#JVAlert John Smith speaking on affiliate programs. Just got great idea on training affiliate managers!” Just don’t get so wrapped up in tweeting that you ignore the content delivered in the conference!

    7. Product or service launch. If you’re about to launch a new product or introduce a new product, let your Twitter followers know, i.e. “Pre-launch pricing for new DVD set about how baby boomers can start an online biz. Get $100 early bird discount at (URL here)”

    8. Responding to others with advice or answers. The way to build professional relationships on Twitter is to help your tweeps. So, if someone asks a question, comments about something to which you have a response or an idea, or you want to ask a followup question, this is the perfect place to do so.

    9. Acknowledging new followers. I’ve noticed a recent trend of acknowledging people who’ve decided to follow a Twitter user in the past day or so. I initially thought that others were doing this as a measure of popularity, but what I’ve come to realize that it’s actually helping out the new followers because it exposes their Twitter profiles to others who may have never heard of them and who might like to follow them. So, to thank your followers, you’d tweet, “Welcome new followers @twittername, @twittername, etc.”

    10. Automate your tweets. Many of my tweets have been automated and connected to other things I do. TwitterFeed turns all of my blog posts into tweets. aWeber turns each ezine issue into a tweet. EzineArticles.com tweets my followers every time I publish an article through their service. Typically all that’s involved here is connecting the particular service to my Twitter account. Once all the services are connected, I get free and automated Twitter posts with no additional effort on my part.

Twitter can be a great time-waster or a wonderful way to market your business and leverage your expertise online. Follow these 10 strategies and you’ll begin to attract more followers and get more clients through social networking.

Twitter Tools For Business Building-Social Oomph

Twitter Tools For Business Building-Social Oomph

Twitter is an very effective tool for free marketing and lead generation for your business. This is the first part of my 3 part series in which I will be writing about various third-party Twitter Tools which will help increase exposure to your blog and your business. Whether you are a novice or veteran Twitter-er, you will find your favorite tool and easily be able to execute it into your marketing efforts.

Social Oomph (formerly tweetlater)-This is an incredible way to save time and boost your Twitter productivity by scheduling your tweets.

Some of the features I especially liked and that are included in the FREE version of this service are:

    * Schedule Tweets: Plan it, set it & forget It! Like an autoresponder, you can keep your Twitter and StatusNet streams ticking over with new tweets even when you’re not in front of your computer. Publish tweets when you know your international followers are online and you’re asleep. An effective scheduling plan is to prepare a series of tweets that lead up to a link you want your followers to click through.

    * Save and Re-Use Drafts: Save draft tweets, regularly used text snippets and URLs and reuse them in your scheduled tweets. Save tons of time by avoiding repetitive typing. Save a draft once and use it as a template for updates on Twitter and StatusNet accounts.

    * Send DM’s (Direct Messages) to new followers: Automatically send a nice non-promotional DM to new followers that focus on them and your future interaction with them, or simply to thank them for choosing to follow you.

    * URL shortening: This is an in-house URL shortening service, dld.bz, in which you can trace the clicks on your shortened links, and get all kinds of valuable and insightful click statistics.

    * Follow Those Who Follow You: Automatically follow people who follow you and save a ton of time while your Friends list builds itself.

    * Un-Follow Those Who Un-Follow You: Automatically unfollow someone when they unfollow you if that is how you desire to manage your Friends list.

    * View @Mentions & Retweets: With more than one Twitter or StatusNet account it can become a real difficult task to keep track of your @mentions and everyone who has retweeted your tweets. They make it simple by showing your @mentions and/or retweets for all your accounts on one page, in one integrated timeline. Yes, that’s correct, you see your StatusNet tweets integrated with your Twitter tweets.

    * Private Tweet Viewing/Grouping Channels: With predefined tweet channels, you can view the tweets from selected breaking news sites, technology news sites, etc. grouped together for easy viewing of tweets that relate to a specific topic.

There is also a Professional account for the more advanced users of Twitter and who want to take this free marketing strategy even further.

This Pro version includes managing features of all your social accounts including a Facebook and ping.fm integration module, as well as your blog. Another very nice feature of Pro is that you are able to find quality friends to follow by using keywords and further organize and filter these friends. You can discover which of your friends is that special “power follower” that has the most influence. It also has SPAM control, ability to manage several accounts and many other features.

The Pro version has a monthly fee of $29.97. However, there is also a 7-day free trial of the Pro version if you wanted to test drive it.

One other nice thing about Social Oomph is that they have an affiliate program that you can become a part of even if you sign up for the free account.

So I looked up the definition of ‘oomph’, and it is actually a real word meaning ’spirited vigor’ or ’sex appeal’. So I thought it would be suitable to say, “Get out there and get your Twitter Oomph on!”
